Touching Heaven

Have you seen this Jon Crane painting?

Here is the description that goes with the print: Country church near Wakonda and Volin in Easern South Dakota. Same church as in "Prairie Prelude."

Here is my personal description: Church that my grandparents attended, located just 2 miles from their farm. The church was central in the lives of Grandma and Grandpa and they were two of the kindest, gentlest people who have ever lived. In later years they sold the farm and moved to Vermillion and are buried there in the company of many, many family members. But I love to ride my bike by this church that reminds me so much of Grandma and Grandpa.

Maybe we should have Tour deChurches ride and visit all the country churches; Zion, Trondheim, Pleasant Valley, Vangen, Dalesburg. Bring your fork, maybe there will be a potluck dinner!

Help me out here. Apparently 23 years removed from Wakonda has clouded up my memory. Where is this at?

As you leave Volin and head towards Valley View, you turn at the first road and go south (the only option you have) 1 mile and turn east and go about 1/2 mile.

Or from the Talmo Hill road, after going up Talmo Hill, take first road and go north a couple miles and then turn east.

Its now called Faith United and I think it is on the same road that eventually connects with the Johnson bridge?

Rock on...that's what I thought, but that isn't exactly *between* Volin and Wakonda.

I can tell you a good story about that church someday. Ask Mom about the "church" that I was born in.

Somewhere around there is a church built from field stone by an ex-convict. I can't remember just exactly where, but it is nestled on the south side of a hill on a gravel road. (fixed some guys' computer about 10 years ago and drove by it)

I think the Mayor is talking about Trondheim - just one mile to the north and it is on gravel.

I am a Vangen girl and know about where this is. Gotta love Jon Crane!
